            Welcome to the Art Cellar’s Workshop.  The class size will be small and reservations are required.  A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 will hold your spot in the class.  The remaining balance will be due by July 1st.

 

            There will be an orientation on Sunday for the Plein Aire workshop, at the Art Cellar located in the St. Michael-Lakeside School, 4628 Pitt Street, Duluth (the corner of 47th Avenue East and Pitt Street).  The studio is located on the lower level of the school.  Please use the 47th Avenue East entrance.  Orientation will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. Participants will meet Mary Beth and announcements pertaining to the week will be given.

Required Materials

 

Drawing pencil                                                                   

Eraser

Small drawing tablet

Notebook

Paper Towel (viva)

Water container

Mister

Backing board for a hard surface to sketch and paint on (gatorboard works well)

1 ˝ inch masking tape – good quality

Paper Arches Bright White #140 cold press

-                     At least one full sheet (22 x 30) per day

Brushes – Bring what you already have.  Do not buy items you won’t use again.  If you need to buy brushes purchase 1 inch flat with an aquarelle angled handle for scraping, #10 or #12 round brush, #2 round brush and a 2 inch wash brush.  Brushes can be sable, synthetic or a blend of both.  Don’t buy “cheap” brushes, but there is no need to buy the highest price brush either.  Some good brands are Winsor/Newton, Grumbacher and Robert Simmons.

Palette – Bring what you have already.  If you need to buy one, a regular John Pike palette is an excellent choice.

Paints – Bring what you have already.  If you don’t have cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine Blue, Raw Sienna or Burnt Sienna please pick them up. 

Please see suggested color list if you need to purchase paint.  Some good brands of paint are American Journey, Winsor and Newton, Holbein and Daniel Smith.

You must have your lunch and beverage ready by the time class starts in the morning.

 

For the Plein Aire Workshop, we will not paint outside if the weather is really rainy.  If the conditions are poor we will paint in the studio.
